Man From Snowy River Arena Spectacular tours dV-DOSC
With Roadshow Entertainment, in conjunction with Jacobsen Entertainment, recently releasing ‘The Man From Snowy River Arena Spectacular’ on DVD here are some images and brief info on the Jands Production Services sound system used for the event.
The Man From Snowy River Arena Spectacular was a musical, a rock concert, a rodeo and an arena spectacular like no other. Based on the legendary Banjo Patterson poem and inspired by the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Jands Production Services was hired to design and provide a sound system and operators/crew to meet the challenge of the this large scale technically sophisticated production.
The ‘Man From Snowy River’ Arena Spectacular showcased, for the first time in Australia, the L-ACOUSTICS dV-DOSC and dV-SUB System. The Production toured Australian arenas for a period of 8 weeks visting five major Cities.
The Production received great reviews and the dV-DOSC System provided excellent sound coverage. The system was configured ‘in the round’ using four arrays. Each array consisted of 9 dV-DOSC and 2 dV-SUBs. Flown behind each cluster were JPS flying amp racks containing Crown MA5002’s.

16th Annual ARIA 2002
Last year’s ARIA Awards was the first time the event was held at the Sydney Superdome. That meant, with an audience of some 10,000 people and the largest ARIA set to date, excellent audio coverage would be required.
An L-ACOUSTICS V-DOSC System, complete with dV-DOSC boxes used as downfill and ARCS flown as side clusters, were used by Jands Production Services and its crew to complete the task. Live performances at the Awards featured Silverchair, Taxiride, Grinspoon, Kasey Chambers, Holly Valance, Disco Montego featuring Katie Underwood, George, Selwyn, 1200 Techniques & Take your pick.

Kylie tours with V-DOSC
“AT caught up with Kylie’s Australian FOH engineer, Chris Pyne during the final dress rehearsal before the tour kicked off in Australia. Chris has been Kylie’s ‘sound guy’ for a good number of years now (just take a look back at Issue 3 to read Trevor Cronin’s interview with Chris on the last Kylie tour), and has happily ridden the wave of grown euphoria that has surrounded Kylie’s global success. In no time, 800-seat club dates have been replaced by 18,000-seat arena gigs and an upcoming US festival tour will no doubt ratchet up the worldwide excitement even further.”

Elton John tours with i4
“This new i4 system is amazing. For years and years we used the Clair S4 system, which was great in its own way. It had a lot of punch but the highs didn’t project like they could have. Meanwhile, the bottom end of the i4 is much cleaner, much tighter than the S4. It’s quite amazing how the high end projects – everyone in the house is getting top quality sound.”

Roger Waters Live with the i4 System
No giant polyurethane walls to knock down, no huge inflatable animals and no pyrotechnics to rival Vesuvius…
But the music Roger Waters wrote for Pink Floyd has an inherent grandiose scale despite the lack of side-show shenanigans. Not to say that Roger embarked on the tour with only a Transit van full of gear, a six pack of beer and a couple of mates – this is a serious production involving a 10-piece band, large crew, and a JPS-supplied Clair Bros i4 PA system. Also of interest was the use of a ‘quad’ PA system.

JBL Vertec First Nationwide tour
Face-painting, glam rock, mega band Kiss gave their fans one last guitar smokin’, fire-breathing, pyrotechnic tour of Australia during April. When they first cranked out ‘Rock And Roll All Night’ to Australian fans twenty years ago, their sound quality could not have hoped to match the clarity and coverage of this tour.
Jands Production Services provided the JBL VERTEC Line Array System for the first time for a full nationwide tour of major entertainment venues, including the Burswood Dome in Perth on April 1 and concluded on the Gold Coast on April 13.
The 36, 4889 VERTEC cabinets were flown in two columns, 18 deep on either side of the stage and they were powered by Crown MA 5002 VZ amps. -
